Go Batty!

Here's my 3rd and last card for today's Featured Stamper: Just Say Boo!
That's me! I feel silly CASE'ing myself, but it's giving me one last chance to make Halloween cards just for fun. LOL!

Stamps: Vampire Riley (Hanna Stamps), Greeting (DRS Designs)
Paper: chocolate chip, pumpkin pie, apricot appeal, white
Ink: black, brown, Copic markers
Accessories: ribbon, brads, MS bat punch, dimensionals

Is it Riley?

Impersonating
Kenny Chesney

"She thinks my tractor's sexy
It really turns her on.
She's always starin' at me
While I'm chuggin' along.
She likes the way it's pullin'
while we're tillin' up the land.
She's even kind of crazy
'bout my farmer's tan.
She's the only one who really
understands what gets me.
She thinks my tractor's sexy."

Happy New Year!

I am SO GLAD to be stamping something other than Christmas cards and presents!!!!

My family has made a New Year's resolution. We need to have more fun time together. A weekly family night where we rotate choosing the activity is the plan.

We started it on New Year's Eve. We all did the SCS sketch challenge. (Yep, it was my turn to choose!) By the time we were done, I was exhausted! The funny thing is that my hubby needed more help than my son who has cerebral Palsy. LOL!

The first card is the one I made (once I was done helping the guys). I used a Wish RAK image from CC Designs. The brads, Swiss Dots CB, and photo corner punches are all from Wish RAK, too! I love swapping!

The second card was made by my hubby. He really needed the most help with color. He colored the Riley moose (from Hanna Stamps) first and then started picking some odd color combos to go with it. Yikes. I redirected him to the main image, but I had to stop him from using orchid opulence a few times. Oh my! He should never host a color challenge. LOL! I also suggested that he use stars instead of hearts and I encouraged him to use my brand new Martha Stewart edge punch.

My hubby said this was very hard and that he very imoressed at what a wonderful stamper I am... and he was very serious about it. He said it many times. What a sweetie.

This last card was done by my son. I asked him if he wanted to use other colors on the robot (By Doodle Factory). He said no. He has stamped with me before on a few occasions and he does it the way he wants it! LOL! Since this was a sketch, it was a little harder for him, but he dealt with it very well.

A person on SCS commented on his card and acknowledged his great coloring. He really has improved so that will make him feel proud. My son is challenged with cerebral Palsy and high functioning autism. He is a young teen and I'm very proud of his card.

On SCS, my username is Miss Boo. My hubby signed up on SCS last summer as MrBoo in order to communicate to my friends on SCS while I was in the hospital. My son wanted to be Boo Boo, but the name was taken. So his username is The Original Boo. Since he was small and in an incubator, he has had several nicknames involving Boo: Boo, Boo-Boo, Boo Bear. Now that he's a teenager, I have to be careful when and where I call him that, because it's just not cool! But he still loves to hear it from me at home. :) He such a sweetheart.... most of the time. (wink)

I wouldn't be Miss Boo if I didn't like Halloween! Actually, I love everything that has to do with Autumn: colors of the leaves, visiting the apple orchard, craft shows, beginning of a new school year, Halloween parties, and Thanksgiving with family. So, you will be seeing a lot of Halloween and autumn cards during the next few weeks. And there will be other stuff in between, too. ;) Today, I have some witches for you!

And it's looking like in my SCS gallery too! Autumn is my favorite season. I love the colors, holidays, cooler weather, and the beginning of a new school year.

Some are going to the servicemen and women so that they can send them to loved ones. Some are going to wounded heroes in hospitals. I'm honored to be a part of such a great effort.

My Wish RAK item is the chocolate chip scalloped Nestie! I got the dark brown ribbon from my friend Hobbywoman! Thanks Julie!

This card measures 5x5. The creamy caramel DP is from SU's Round Up. The flourish DP is from (I think) DCWV or Provocraft.

Christmas in July

Yes... I'm already making Christmas cards! :) I found out recently that they are selling on the bay... I sold left overs from last year (3 sets). So now I'm making new ones.

Happy Holidays Kitty

This is such a fun sketch challenge for small images! I was ready for any size image needed. I knew I was in for a long wait at DS's appt, so I brought 2 boxes of Copics and a clamshell full of stamped images with me. I think I turned Riley into Sophia! Oh my! But real moose wear pink, right?!?

This is a double challenge:

Look at those waves!

Riding the Waves

Surf's up for the star! Doesn't Riley look cool in his Bermuda trunks?! This card was made for one of the Hannah Stamps PJ party challenges to use stars. This poor card is the results of hiding many mistakes. LOL! Hopefully you can't notice them, now. Right click on the photo too get a bigger view. Find out what they are after the recipe. :)

Stamps: Surf Riley - Hannah Stamps, So Swirly jumbo wheel - SU
Paper: temtping turquoise, pumpkin pie, only orange, white
Ink: black, tempting turquoise, pumpkin pie
Accessories: Copic markers for coloring, SU markers for the dots, CM custom cutting system, dimensionals
Techniques: sponging

OK... Did you see the mistakes? 1) Do you like Riley off-centered? Well, he's like that because I goofed on the setting of my circle cutter. I stopped right away and tried to realign it. But he's not just off-center, the circle "over-lapped" meaning it didn't end at the right place. The stars were not supposed to be positioned quite like that. The bottom right ones are hiding the cutting blunder. 2) I punched the only orange stars to match the shorts. I was having trouble with the layout I thought I was going to use. I turned it over. One of the layers was too bright and out of place. But what if I had a subtle & mostly hidden one? I grabbed the nearest orange cs, only it was pumpkin pie! I did NOT notice the difference in oranges until I was taking the picture! So, back to the table. How do I tone down the only orange? I added pumpkin dots to the stars to go along with the other dot borders. Not enough. So, I got a dauber and sponged pumpkin pie ink in the middle of the stars..... and called it good. I'm sure the untrained recipient of this card will have no idea, but it's still bugging me. LOL! Boy am I exhausted!

Making Waves

What a talented skier Riley is! He can water ski one-handed and wave at his admirers! This card measures 4.25 square. I use 4.5 square A Muse envelopes. This card was also made the Hannah Stamps PJ party challenges. This time the challenge called for punches. I used square, circle, & photo corner punches. I was able to use all scraps of the DSP. I save all sizes of designer paper scraps!!!

Stamps: Riley - Hannah Stamps, sentiment - SU In the Spotlight
Paper: real red, brilliant blue, bashful blue, bashful blue DSP, white
Ink: black, bashful blue (sponging)
Accessories: Copic markers for coloring, gingham ribbon, square, circle, & photo corner punches, SU red marker for dots
Techniques: sponging

These fun challenges were found ion the Hannah Stamps forum at SCS. There were five in all to celebrate the release of new Riley stamps! Oh they are soooo cute! I wish I could have bought them all. These are the ones coming to my mailbox soon: School Riley, Sick Riley, Baking Riley, Santa Riley, Vampire Riley, Carrying a Tree Riley, & Pumpkin Patch Riley. You can see all the Riley stamps here. And as always, I had to get a couple new Copic markers. :) For my tutorial on blending & coloring with Copics, click here.

Blending & Coloring with Copic Markers

I have watched the pros color with Copics. And I've had hands-on learning, too. Still, it took lots of practice to finally feel comfortable with the process. I've now realized that I have a different way of making it work.... different from what I've seen anyway. Maybe it will be right for you, too. Just don't give up!

Materials used:

Surfer Riley image from Hannah Stamps
Ink: Palette Noir Black
Georgia Pacific white cs

Copics:
Sand E33 (lightest brown)
Chamois E35 (medium brown)
Sepia E37 (darkest brown)
Frost Blue B00
Cadium Orange YR07
Yellowish Green YG06
Acid Yellow Y08

Step 1: Choose one small section at a time. Use your medium brown and outline where you want the shadow.

Step 2: Use your lightest brown. Start at the edge and pull the color out just a short distance. You can do the same distance of pulling 2 or 3 times to get an even shading.

Step 3: Continue to use you lightest brown. Go back to the edge and pull the color out a little further.

Step 4: Finish the first section by pulling the color all the way out to the end of this section.

Step 5: Repeat step 1 on a new area. I chose 2 smaller areas (the arms). Use your medium brown to outline the edge for the shadow.

Step 6: Repeat steps 2 and 3 by using your lightest brown and pulling the ink out away from the shadow.

Step 7: Repeat step 1 and use the medium brown for your shadow.

Step 8: Repeat steps 2 and 3 using your lightest brown and starting from the edge of the shadow, pull the color out. Use short strokes first.

Step 9: Continuing to pull the color out, lengthen your strokes. The more you pull the darker it will get.

Step 10: You don't always have to use 2 shades. I wanted the ears to be a little lighter. So I only used the lightest shade of brown. But this time, I went over the shadow line 2 or 3 times. Remember the more you color, the darker it gets. Then using the same shade, pull the color out as you did before.

Step 11: With the face, I used just the lightest brown and colored down from the tuff of his fur between the antlers. For the antlers, I used the medium brown for the shadow again.

Step 12: Then I used the lighter brown to pull the color across the antlers. I went to the legs and used just the lightest shade of brown like I did for the ears.

Step 13: I used the darkest shade of brown to fill in the hooves.

Step 14: I used the frost blue to fill in my shadow. I colored over the shadow a couple of times since I'm using just one shade again. The I pulled the color out.

Step 15: For the surf board, I used just one shade of orange. Then I lightly colored the pattern of the swim trunks.

I used Julee Tillman's Mojo sketch 32 for the card. I thought Bodacious Bouquet would be the perfect compliment for this cute surfer moose. I used the rock & roll technique for the blossoms. I first inked the blossom with apricot appeal and then rolled the edges on the pumpkin pie ink pad.

I sent this card to my wonderful MIL. She LOVED her Hawaii trip last year. This isn't the same as a trip, but Riley sure is cute!

Stamps: Bodacious Bouquet - SU, Surfer Riley - Hannah Stamps
Paper: soft sky, pumpkin pie, apricot DSP, white
Ink: black, soft sky, certainly celery, apricot appeal, pumpkin pie
Accessories: Copic Markers, soft sky ribbon, eyelets
Techniques: rock & roll
