Birthday Cards

In honor of my grandpa's birthday, I thought I would post a couple of birthday cards.

I made this first one for my brother. My 8 year old nephew just gushed over how cool it was. He's a keeper. :)

I sponged the baseball and the edges of the card because players are always dusty or dirty after a game. This topper fits in a standard A2 envelope. I started with a 4.25 square card and then positioned the topper to fit in the envelope.

Stamps: Sporting Goods, Hugs & Wishes
Paper: real red, buckaroo blue, white
Ink: black, real red, buckaroo blue, chocolate chip
Accessories: markers, CM custom cutting system, ribbon

Accessories: ribbon, ticket corner punch, paper piercer, markers, square punches

Veteran's Day

This Veteran's Day is more meaningful to me than past years. It's a day to remember not only all who have served our country and have since passed away. It's a day to remember my grandpa. My grandpa was the only grandpa I knew. He was fun, lovable, and unique. I remember his whistling. I remember his tongue twisters. (I wish I could remember the one about the Polly's pink plastic pills that cures everything... one he used when we were sad over something silly like not being first. LOL!) I remember his hats. My DS was the only great-grandchild he remembered in his later years. And he had a fascination with Grandpa's hats. I have a wonderful scrapbook page, but I don't think it was ever photographed. Grandpa loved to talk about his war days. He worked with a priest. From what I can remember, they were on and off the battle fields. I was young and wish I had journals to read. What I remember most was the food and the meticulous way they had to pack their uniforms. Guess what? That's now how I pack my suitcases. And if I'm careful, I have no wrinkles!!!

It's a sad day. It's a day for tears. It's a day for remembering. With myself. I know Mom and Grandma went to a special service. I was busy with DS. He had a medical emergency. But I'm not sure I could have handled it. I remember being numb for awhile after he passed. I didn't cry until I heard Taps. Now I just want to cherish the memories.

So today, I chose to psot some sympathy cards I've made in the past. I seem to use light blue on most of my sympathy cards. It seems soothing to me.

This Thursday would have been his 89th birthday. I will post something more festive to celebrate him on that day.

My #1 Man

I am remarried to the most giving and caring man. We have our moments of disagreements and communication misunderstandings, but we still love and respect each other at the end of the day despite our disabilities... that honestly should be tearing us apart instead of keeping us together.

DH is a Browns fan since he grew up in the Cleveland area. He is teased on our family fantasy football league because he always comes in 2nd place. I made this card awhile ago in hopes of giving it to him at the end of this season. But I think I'll give it to him now. He is my number one, my champion, my hero. (Here on Earth... I'm not disrespecting God. Just thought I should say that! :)

Stamps: Pink Cat Studio - QT Hooty Owl, SU - Sporting Goods, Weathered
Paper: white, creamy caramel, close to cocoa, chocolate chip
Ink: black, creamy caramel, chocolate chip
Accessories: Copic markers, ribbon, circle punches & CM custom cutting system, dimensionals

Something NEW and EXCITING

I was invited to a crop this past weekend by scrappintlc (Robin). I had so much fun! But here's the extra good stuff... I found out about a new online paper crafting site. I love it! Lots of splitcoasters are there already. You don't want to miss checking it out!

Paper Craft Planet - main page

Paper Craft Plant - my profile page
Click on the left side bar on the word "photos" to see my gallery.... or you can view a slide show of my cards at the bottom of my profile page. That slide show is a pretty cool feature!

1st Year Cheerleader

Here is the proof that I was actually at a crop! And I accomplished a double page spread and part of another with the help of CTMH level 1 kits. They are so awesome! I love making my own layouts, but I am so far behind that a little help is wonderful. Thank you, scrappintlc, for inviting me. I had a great time!!!

These pages are of my nieces. My 5 yr old niece started her first year of cheerleading this fall. She's too cute. My 18 month old niece wanted to be a cheerleader, too. She kept running up to them and clapping. It was hilarious. Then at my nephew's birthday party, both the girls showed off their talent. My precious 18 mo old niece is growing up too too fast.

Permission was given by my SIL to display these pages with her daughters.

What do you think?

I sell most of the Christmas cards that I make. I've been trying to come up with something to mass produce with this set for my family and friends. The coloring is a little off, even with the editing. The colors are very vanilla, chocolate chip, creamy caramel, and red riding hood taffeta ribbon. The tree is "decorated" with diamond stickles. What do you think?

46 day until Christmas!

46 days until Christmas.... Is it too late to be good? I just had to have this stamp when I saw it in my LSS. They had just gotten them a few days ago and I got the last one! I hadn't even planned on stopping that day. Wow... was I lucky!

Christmas can be interesting with a cat in the house! Thankfully, our cats just sniff the tree and sleep under it. Every once in awhile, I'll find an ornament in another part of the house. But the tree hasn't been climbed and tipped over... yet.

Snow already!?!

I was shocked to see the weather report in the Dakotas! And then I heard we have the possibility for snow this week! Yikes! I am so not ready for winter... IRL! But I do like making snowman and snow scene cards!

I need help with this first card. When I unmounted, I lost track of some of my individual stamps' companies. Do you know which stamp company made this cute image?

Edit: I found it! It's from Inkadinkado

Paper: white, brocade blue, unknown DP

Doesn't this look like fun? When I was in elementary school it was! Oh the things parents don't know... thinking back about the hills in the woods we sledded on, I can't believe we were ever allowed to go there without it being inspected. Thankfully, no one ever got hurt.

She won! One of my very best friends, Robin McGregor, won a seat on our local school board! And she came in first by 100s of votes! I am so excited for her! She worked hard, she's honest, she's there for the teachers and students and she deserves this!

I've been on the phone all morning. LOL! I'm exhausted, have a migraine and have post-election stuff to do later.... but it was soooo worth it. I'll be back with at least 2 cards for the awesome SCS sketch challenge. I'm ready to stamp again!

Have fun tick-or-treating! And stay safe.

I've started scrapbooking again!!!

I can't remember scrapbooking since last April. I decided to start small with a 6x6 album about my cats. I always seem to have extra pics of my cats and don't know how to incorporate them into my family album. So now they have their own! LOL! I've found that working with a 6x6 is a lot easier to do after working with cards for so long. I look at a 12x12 and wonder how am I going to fill the space??? Maybe when I'm done filling up my 12x12 albums, I'll switch to something smaller. Don't know yet.

This first page of Princess was done using this week's color challenge on SCS. She was thrilled to be outdoors again in the spring.

BLOG CANDY WINNERS

I have the first winner... Stampandweave! Please PM Miss Boo with your snail mail addy!

I'm looking for one more. Read my clue in the comments. (wink)

Thanks to everyone for particicpating. I'm loving all of the answers. There are more purposes for this card than I thought.

I have a second and final winner.... Misti! Please PM Miss Boo with your snail mail addy!

Again, thank you for playing. It's been a very fun day and your answers were wonderful!!!!!!!!

Stanpandweave's answer:

Feeling like a bug under a magnifying glass while doctors figure out your diagnosis?

Miss Boo says: This card can be used to say to a person going through the same thing and that you understand and you're there for support.

Misti's answer:

When I saw this, I thought, "I've got your back!" I can see me giving this to my adhd son, when other people don't understand him, Mom does!

Miss Boo says: Exactly, as a mom of a special needs child, I see how he is misunderstood. When he comes home, it's a safe place. It can also be the same for the parent.... I've actually had doctor's say to me.... get over it... and... your lifestyle isn't helping him.

October 19 - The Happy Side

This date is a significant one for me. It represents the gift of life. My first son was a micro preemie and spent 15 weeks in NICU. He finally came home on Oct. 19, 1995, weighing just 3 pounds 12.5 ounces. We celebrate every year. We call it his Homecoming Day! We are so blessed to have him in our lives.

My son LOVES robots. He politely says he likes all of my cards when he sees them, but this one was "cool"! He's so cute!

Stamps: Rocket man - Technique Tuesday, Family Phrases - SU
Paper: pacific blue, certainly celery, basic black, white
Ink: black
Accessories: Copic & SU markers, circle punches, paper piercer & mat stack

October 19 - The Sad Side

This card was made in memory of my second son who died during delivery on October 19, 2000. I made it a couple of years ago, hoping I would never have to use it. I did end up using it when a student of mine passed away. I'm so glad I had it on hand, because I wasn't in the crafty mood at the time.

Many of us have known someone who has had a miscarriage. Some of you may have known someone who has had a stillborn baby, a baby die as an infant, or a young child die either tragically or from an awful disease. In all of these situations, we need to proceed carefully.

What do you put inside a sympathy card for the loss of a baby or child? You can always use a search engine to find a verse or poem. There are lots of good ones. Don't ever say you understand.... unless you do. You can very appropriately say, "Just want you to know I care". When offering to help, be specific. Offer to go grocery shopping, help with older children's homework or car pooling. Maybe make a meal or do some laundry. Think concretely.

When do you send cards? At the time of death is just the obvious. But don't forget these times: at the anniversary of the death, the first Christmas or significant holiday, the child's birthday or due date for a miscarriage or premature birth.

{{Hugs}},

Miss Boo

October 15 - Think Pink

Are not these these trees from TAC just the cutest?!? (Right click on the photo to see the detailed design on the trees!) I especially love the pink one! Whenever I make a pink Christmas card, I think of "Charlie Brown's Christmas". When I was a kid, I used to laugh and snicker at the colorful tin trees for sale. The pink tin tree has always stuck with me. I think pink is a very pretty non-traditional color for the season.

Stamps: Seasonal Cuties (trees) - TAC, All Year Cheer 3 - SU
Paper: white, certainly celery, pretty in pink
Ink: same
Accessories: markers, taffeta ribbon, scallop punch, CM custom cutting system, dimensionals
